It's puppy love for birthday boy Adam Ant as he keeps his new canine companion warm

You're meant to wear a poppy for Remembrance Day... not a puppy! Former pop star Adam Ant - real name Stuart Goddard - keeps his cute little pup warm during a stroll round London

He was once the dandy highwayman that we were too scared to mention.

But it would seem that Adam Ant has grown soft and soppy in his old age as he cuddled in close to his new puppy on the eve of his 56th birthday.

The former pop star was snapped going for a leisurely walk round central London with his cute little canine companion all snug inside his leather jacket

The former frontman of Eighties pop band Adam and The Ants was snapped running errands around Kensington yesterday with a female companion.

Adam - real name Stuart Goddard - wore an unusual outfit of faded green combat trousers and a black leather jacket which his puppy peered out of.

Stuart, who celebrates his 56th birthday today, also re-lived his days of pop stardom and paid tribute to his former band by wearing an Adam and the Ants T-shirt.

He topped off the look with Spats-style shoes, a bandanna with a hat over the top, which had a Jack of Spades playing car tucked inside the rim, and a set of keys hanging off his trousers.

He and the young-looking blonde stopped at Italian cafe La Bottega before hitting the shops, including charity chain Oxfam, an optician and a key cutters.

Leisurely stroll: Clutching a coffee and a shopping bag, Stuart walks along with a young blonde, believed to be his new girlfriend

Stuart, who shot to fame in the Eighties with hits such as Stand And Deliver and Prince Charming, recently attempted - and failed - to relaunch his singing career.
He has lived a turbulent life since his heyday, having been diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

He was charged with affray in October 2002 after throwing a car alternator through the window of the Prince of Wales pub in Kentish Town, north London, and intimidating staff with an imitation gun.

He was sectioned in September 2003 after a dispute with a neighbour where he threatened to smash in his patio doors with a shovel and was found lying naked in a cafe basement.

More recently, in May this year, he upset a Christian audience at a charity concert in Portsmouth when he launched into a foul-mouthed rant which led to a fight behind the scenes.
