Plea: Katie Price poses with Octavia, one of the residents of the Horse Sanctuary in Kent which is facing closure at the end of this month

She's know for her love of horses and has her own stables and equestrian clothing range.

And yesterday, Katie Price extended her love as she appealed for financial help from the public for a horse sanctuary that is facing closure at the end of the month.

The glamour model visited the The Horse Refuge in Moons Green, near Tenterden, Kent, which desperately needs £600,000 to save it.

Dressed in a black T-shirt, grey jodhpurs and gold riding boots with diamante buckles, all from her own equestrian range, Katie, 32, was given a tour of the site by owner Sara Ross.

And she learned that Sara has been unable to raise the £600,000 needed to buy the land currently used by the sanctuary and the horses face going to slaughter if another location cannot be found.

Katie appealed to the public 'to put your hands in your pockets' and donate money to the refuge.

She said: 'I've come to raise awareness to see if I can get people to help. I expected the horses to be bags of bones but I was surprised at how well kept they are.

And referring to owner Sara, she added: 'She's doing a really good job here. She looks like she's overloaded with animals, she's definitely very dedicated.

'Please do what you can to help these horses be re-homed and avoid what would be a tragic and very sad end after so much fantastic work from Sara and the team at The Horse Refuge.'

Katie also took some time to meet and pet some of the horses who are all too ill, old or abused to be re-homed with individual owners

She puckered up to Shire horse Bertha who at more than 21 hands or 7ft tall, made Price look tiny in comparison as she swung around the animal's neck and kissed it.

Ms Ross started the sanctuary in 1995 and it is currently home to about 40 abandoned and abused animals.

She said they had to leave the farm by 12 August but had appealed for another four weeks.

Ms Ross added: "They're not domestic animals, you can't keep them in your house, so they're the first thing to go.

Plea: Katie stops to pose for the cameras outside the stables as she appeals for help raising the money needed to save the refuge

'We're desperate for people to give us money to save these horses as many of them have already had horrific lives and need to be well looked after.

'To avoid having the animals slaughtered we are appealing to everyone to send donations to enable us to move to another location.'
